Newcastle United have done a wonderful job since the turn of the year of turning their season around. As a result, they have climbed rapidly up the Premier League table and are not only out of relegation danger now but could even end up finishing in the top half of the table. Their final few games of the campaign are very tough though.

In the previous game, they lost 1-0 at the hands of Liverpool and were completely outplayed by Jurgen Klopp’s side as well. Now, they will have to face Manchester City next.

Pep Guardiola’s side suffered a shock Champions League exit at the hands of Real Madrid in midweek, after conceding 3 times after 90 minutes, after they had dominated the entire tie and were minutes away from reaching a second straight final in the competition.

Thus, one would expect Manchester City to be eager to make a statement against Newcastle United and at least get the Premier League campaign home. On the other hand, The Magpies have been handed a major boost going into the game.

Eddie Howe confirms Newcastle United star could return vs Manchester City

As reported by The Athletic, it looks like Callum Wilson could be involved against Manchester City, as Howe said:

"“Callum has trained all week. We’re really pleased with him, he’s trained really well. We’ve had two really tough days and he’s come through those days excellently.“Physically, he looks very good. He’s put a lot of work in to get back to this point. I’m really pleased with his attitude, as I always am with Callum, and he looks in a good place.“There’s a good chance he’ll be involved.”"

If that turned out to be the case, it would be a huge boost for Newcastle United. Wilson has been out of action since December after picking up an injury against Manchester United and he is still the club’s highest scorer this season till now.

Thus, having him back in the mix, before the season comes to a conclusion would be a major boost for Howe and his side. If he is indeed fit enough on the day, a late appearance as a substitute could very well be on the cards. Let’s see how things unfold.

The biggest thing that Newcastle United have been missing at the moment is a player who can score consistently. Hopefully, Wilson will be able to fill that void following his return from injury.
