After a slow start to life at St James’ Park, it is safe to say that Bruno Guimaraes has come into his own in recent weeks and quickly become one of the most important players in this Newcastle United team. The club beat the likes of Arsenal and Real Madrid to his signature, and we are starting to see why those clubs were interested in the Brazilian.

Newcastle United shelled out a huge transfer fee to bring him in from Lyon but it is starting to look like it was a good move on their part indeed. Guimaraes appears to be a player who Eddie How can build his midfield around, with the Brazilian expected to get even better, as he is just 24 years of age.

Guimaraes deserves a lot of credit for making the move to Newcastle United when they were still fighting relegation. Not many others would have.

Now though, the club have avoided the drop and it looks like they have big things coming up in the future, after having managed to climb up to ninth in the Premier League table despite the first half of the season that they had. Guimaraes appears to have big hopes for what the Magpies can go on to achieve moving forward. As reported by ESPN, he said:

"“We want to get into the top 6. Fight for the Europa League , maybe for the Champions League . We know that it won’t be overnight that you will become a top 7, you have to prove it on a daily basis, in the championships, but we hope for the best. I hope we can form a great team, it will depend on the reinforcements, who will arrive, who will leave. I’m very optimistic, I hope we can fight for the Europa League, maybe Champions”."

Guimaraes reveals big Newcastle United targets

It is safe to say that those are big targets for a club that was fighting the drop not too long ago but at the same time, those are nothing that cannot be achieved.

Since the turn of the year, the Magpies have been one of the most in-form teams in all of Europe. Only Liverpool have managed to pick up more points than them.

Thus, it is great to see players like Guimaraes having such lofty goals for the future and it will give the fans hope as well. Let’s see how far Howe can take this team.
