A few weeks back, things were looking all rosy at Newcastle United, as the team were in the middle of an incredible run of form since the turn of the year. But three defeats on the trot, against Chelsea, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur, respectively, mean that some doubts might start creeping back in at St James’ Park. And there appears to be some worrying news surrounding Kieran Trippier as well.

Trippier had been brought in in the January transfer window from Atletico Madrid and he made a tremendous start to life at Newcastle United. He would pick up an injury in February though and has been out of action since then.

There were hopes that he could be back in time for the game against Crystal Palace later this month but now, it feels like that will be pushed back.

Following the 5-1 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur, Eddie Howe revealed that the club might not be able to push Trippier as quickly as they had initially wanted. As reported by Newcastle World, the manager said:

"“His injury is healing, it’s not totally healed.“We will be able to start pushing him, maybe not as quickly as we initially wanted to, but I still think he’ll come back this season.”"

It is safe to say that this is a blow for Newcastle United and unfortunately for them, it is not the first one.

Callum Wilson has been out since last December and rumours suggested that a return against Crystal Palace was being targeted for his return as well. But the striker suffered an injury setback as well, and it remains to be seen when he will be able to come back.

It goes without saying that Newcastle United could do with both Trippier and Wilson at this point of time. Not only will they bring quality to the pitch but experience as well. It might be a while before we get to see either of them though.
