With their upset win today over West Ham United, Newcastle United are moving closer to securing their Premier League safety. The attention will start to shift to player business this summer and a top priority has emerged in recent weeks.
Newcastle United must focus on signing Joe Willock from Arsenal once this season ends. On loan until the end of this campaign, Willock’s proven to be a gifted player and one that steps up when it matters most.
Twice in the last three matches, Willock has scored the crucial goal for Newcastle United. With the Magpies trailing vs. Spurs earlier this month, the 21-year-old blasted in the equalizer. Today, with his second touch of the match off the bench, he headed in the match-winner from a Matt Ritchie cross.
He has three goals for Newcastle thus far and he adds an attacking dimension to the NUFC midfield that was desperately missing.
Newcastle United must sign Joe Willock from Arsenal this summer.
The price tag for Willock is rumored to be around £20M. Arsenal could use the funds generated from the sale and there doesn’t appear to be a path for regular minutes for Willock for the Gunners.
With a need for a box-to-box midfielder, Newcastle United should open the checkbook and pay that reasonable fee to acquire Willock. If they prefer to see more from the youngster, Mike Ashley and Co. could elect to bring him back on a loan-to-buy deal.
While it would mark the end of his time with his boyhood club, Willock would likely welcome a chance to move from sitting on the bench with Arsenal to playing consistent minutes with the Magpies.
