Newcastle United returned from the international break with an improved sense of urgency against Spurs. Playing with much more purpose than when we saw them vs. Brighton, the Magpies were able to come away with a massive point.

Joelinton opened the scoring at St. James’ Park as Sean Longstaff found the Brazilian at the far post after a turnover by Tottenham. But, the excitement was gone as quickly as it came as the equalizer was scored seconds later.

A through ball towards Harry Kane saw Emil Krafth deflect the ball back towards the star striker, who buried a tap in. Then, Kane struck again as Paul Dummett gave him too much space and just like that, Newcastle trailed 2-1.

Not long after Kane hit the post on his chance for a hat trick, the Magpies got a shining moment from a substitute to earn the draw.

Joe Willock saves the day for Newcastle United in a draw with Spurs.

A cross from Matt Ritchie was headed back across goal by Joelinton and Miguel Almiron couldn’t put it home. But, Joe Willock was in the right place at the right time and blasted the loose ball in off of the underside of the crossbar.

Newcastle United finished with 22 shots on the day after having just three vs. Brighton before the break. Dwight Gayle scuffed two major chances in the first half and also mishit a pass to set up Almiron.

Despite the point, NUFC could still end up in the bottom three at the end of today. If Fulham defeat Aston Villa later on, they will pull even on points and will go ahead Newcastle on goal differential.
