Steve Bruce could hand these three Newcastle players increased roles

After yesterday’s injury update, Newcastle United will be without their three stars in the attack for at least a month. That leaves Steve Bruce with some tough decisions about who should be given more responsibility to fill the roles of Miguel Almiron, Allan Saint-Maximin, and Callum Wilson.

Ryan Fraser

The former Bournemouth player is the most obvious option to see their workload increase. With the ability to play on either wing, Fraser will certainly be a starter for the next month. He brings a similar speedy, shifty skillset to Almiron and Saint-Maximin and will need to produce as a starter instead of a super substitute.

Dwight Gayle

He didn’t impress in his first chance to replace Callum Wilson, but Gayle should get another opportunity up top now. Joelinton will likely fill a role on the wing and without Almiron to play in the center of the attack, the 30-year-old will be relied on to use his pace to make runs in behind and provide some much-needed goalscoring.

While the other two players listed are proven commodities, Anderson’s appeal is largely based on potential. He’s made one brief appearance in the Premier League this season and didn’t look overwhelmed at all. After Bruce reportedly blocked a loan move for him in January with the expectation of giving him some minutes, the 18-year-old should get a fair shot to showcase his skills on the wing.

Bruce could also tactically shift some players around from the existing starting XI. Joe Willock could move from the midfield to playing as a true winger or Joelinton could slide back to striker allowing someone like Jacob Murphy, Matt Ritchie, or even Christian Atsu to come in as a winger.
