With a loss vs. Manchester United in the rearview mirror, Newcastle United find themselves just three points above the drop zone. The club has lost ten of their last 14 Premier League matches and they desperately need a spark to save their season.

Obviously, the injuries to Javier Manquillo, Fabian Schar, and Callum Wilson have put the Magpies in a tough spot. But, there are options at Steve Bruce’s disposal at other positions that could bring the necessary energy.

Elliot Anderson has made one appearance for the first team this season. The 18-year-old came off the bench for the last few minutes vs. Arsenal in January. After rave reviews of his potential, he didn’t look out of his depth in his limited Premier League debut.

He’s spent most of the season with the U-23s and has thrived there. The Scottish youth international scored his fifth Premier League 2 goal of the season yesterday in a win vs. West Brom. As the captain in an EFL Trophy matchup vs. Bolton in November, he scored two goals.

This Newcastle United youngster could provide a much-needed spark.

For the first team, Anderson could provide another energetic dribbler to the group of Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almiron, and Ryan Fraser. He could slot in on the wing, potentially thriving as a super substitute. With the regular first-team players’ legs getting tired down the stretch, Anderson could utilize his youthful energy to press the opposing backline and try to create some offense.

With some winnable matches on the horizon, Anderson’s energy and skill set could be exactly what the doctor ordered for a struggling Newcastle United side.
