Newcastle United’s loss vs. Leeds United earlier this week gives them zero wins in their last 11 matches across all competitions. With only five Premier League victories to their name, Newcastle will look to pick up an upset on Saturday vs. Everton, one of the clubs they defeated earlier this season.

When the clubs squared off back in early November, Everton sat second on the Premier League table. They had only lost one match on the season to that point and it had been the week before vs. Southampton.

The scoring would open up in the second half when Andre Gomes kicked into the back of Callum Wilson’s legs, earning Newcastle a penalty. Wilson stepped up and buried his chance.

Ryan Fraser was an impact man off the bench for the Magpies. With Everton pushing for an equalizer, he thrived on the counter-attack. In the final ten minutes of regular time, he got on the end of a lovely ball from Jamal Lewis and cut it across towards Wilson. The striker redirected the ball in from very close range to extend the lead to 2-0.

But, Everton kept their foot on the gas pedal. A couple of minutes into stoppage time, Dominic Calvert-Lewin tapped home a goal to make things interesting. Bernard had a cross/shot that after the DCL goal that forced Karl Darlow into an awkward tip over the bar.

But, despite the pressure from the Toffees late, Steve Bruce’s side picked up a big three points that moved them up to 10th on the table. Newcastle United followed up the victory with back-to-back 2-0 losses, vs. Southampton and Chelsea, respectively.
