While it may not seem like it, the Newcastle United takeover could help Joelinton’s future with the club.

One of the biggest stories, if not the biggest, of Newcastle United’s 2019-20 Premier League season was the disappointing debut campaign of record-signing Joelinton. After his big-money move from Hoffenheim last summer, the Brazilian number nine scored only one goal in the Premier League. With the club’s ownership takeover coming soon, there are rumors about the Magpies pursuing a new striker to replace him. Despite that, surprisingly, there could be a silver lining to Joelinton’s future if the takeover is completed.

There are a few ways that this could bode well for Joelinton. First, there’s a chance they don’t bring in a new striker, but instead, they add another quality playmaker. If that happens and someone like Philippe Coutinho arrives, Joelinton will definitely see better service than he saw last season. Also, the more quality players in the attack, the less attention that will be paid to Joelinton. Imagine how confident Joelinton would be if he knows a player like Nabil Fekir will put him in good shooting situations on a consistent basis.

Another boost for the Brazilian would be a new manager. Whether there are massive changes to the attacking personnel or not, a manager like Mauricio Pochettino would surely bring more offensive-minded tactics. A new approach would leave Joelinton less isolated and more consistently involved in the match, rather than simply trying to win the ball in the air all by himself near mid-pitch.

The last way may sound a little strange, but Joelinton could benefit from the club bringing in a new, more expensive striker. Whenever there is a big price tag attached to a player, especially a club record, there are going to be high expectations. If a new striker comes in, like Edinson Cavani, Joelinton becomes less of a focal point for criticism. That move would also likely move him to the bench and the 23-year-old could get time to adjust to the league as he watches from the bench and plays as a substitute. Or, he could play next to the new striker and get some easy goals from poaching opportunities.

Like you, I am frustrated by his performance this season and I am not overly optimistic about his future. But, with this ownership takeover happening sooner than later, there’s a chance that Joelinton becomes a Premier League-caliber player.
