Newcastle United should prepare a formal pitch for Gareth Bale seeing that the star winger could be allowed to leave Real Madrid for free this summer.

Before I dive in to the actual topic, let me address all the thoughts running through your minds after you read the title and clicked on this article. Are you mad? Is someone actually paying this guy to write this stuff? What is this, click bait? Have you seen Gareth Bale’s weekly wages ?

Okay, now that you got that out of your system, let me begin by saying that I am completely serious with this proposal, and although it is unlikely that Bale would agree to join Newcastle United, it is not an impossible scenario.

Bale has been left to ride the bench at Real Madrid since the arrival of Zinedine Zidane. The rocky relationship between the two has finally reached the point of no return. According a new report from Spanish media outlet Marca, Real Madrid are seriously considering letting Bale go for free.

Bale is undoubtedly the best available football outcast on the planet, and at 30-years-old the Welsh international still has what it takes to provide a meaningful impact on a team. For now, Tottenham and Manchester United have thrown their hats in the race for his services, but Newcastle United should do whatever they can to hijack this potential free transfer for the following reasons.

Guaranteed Starter

Bale is searching for regular minutes, and Newcastle United is searching for a creative attacking player who can score goals in double figures. It is the perfect combination for Bale and the Magpies. After being ignored by Zidane on a regular basis, Bale is looking for an opportunity to be a regular starter and a key player. It is true that several clubs can offer this role to Bale, but he would immediately become the top dog at Newcastle United.

Premier League Football

Newcastle United might not be the powerhouse club it was in the 1990s and early-2000s, but it is a respectable club that plays its football in what is widely considered to be the best league in the world. It is also fair to say that Newcastle United are only two or three quality players away from knocking on the door of the top eight and chasing a European spot.

More from Newcastle Toons

Signing a player like Bale would quickly elevate the status of Newcastle United in the top flight, and, at the same time, it would allow the former Tottenham star show his doubters that he can still perform at an elite level in Europe’s best league.

Newcastle United Has Money…

Newcastle United has money… lots of it. Mike Ashley refuses to spend that money on transfers, but Newcastle United are recognized as one of the richest football clubs in the world. According to the aforementioned report from Spain, the reason why Real Madrid is leaning toward allowing Bale to leave for free is because no team is willing to match his current weekly wage of £350,000.

In other words, Bale must accept the fact that his weekly wage will be significantly reduced. Obviously, if Bale is still asking for at least £200,000 then Newcastle United has no chance of landing him, but the club has sufficient funds to make him the highest paid player in the squad, and one of the highest paid players in the Premier League.

At the end of the day, what is the worst that could happen if Newcastle United make a formal pitch to Bale and his representatives? The worst possible outcome is that Bale says thank you, but no. Any time a top player is available for free, there is nothing for a team like Newcastle United to lose since they are already underdogs in this transfer race.
