Newcastle United will hope to avoid their third consecutive loss tomorrow when they host Leicester City at St. James’ Park.
Newcastle United are entering tomorrow’s clash against Leicester City with the pressure of bouncing back after losing back-to-back games to Manchester United and Everton. Leicester City won their last game against West Ham in London, but that result marked their first victory in their last four games.
Where They Stand
- Leicester City: 2nd, 42 points (13W-3D-4L)
- Newcastle United: 11th, 25 points (7W-4D-9L)
Analysis
Newcastle United are desperate for a win after losing two consecutive games. The fact that teams below them are starting to turn the corner is piling on the pressure as well. The Magpies looked good against Everton, but they missed too many golden opportunities in front of goal. Miguel Almiron should have scored twice from inside the penalty area.
Steve Bruce’s men failed to correct some basic, but costly defensive errors that came to life against Manchester United and carried over into the Everton game. Poor marking doomed Newcastle United in both games and it could lead to another blowout loss against a high energy, dynamic Leicester City squad.
Brendan Rodgers does not believe the title race is over despite Liverpool’s 13-point lead over his team. With that mentality, one can expect Rodgers to tell his players to attack the Magpies from the opening whistle. Having dropped crucial points in three of their last four games, Leicester City will look to feed Jamie Vardy, James Maddison and Ayoze Perez with the ball as often as they can to threaten Martin Dubravka‘s goal.

Newcastle United have pulled off a few impressive surprises against Tottenham, Manchester United and Manchester City this season, but stopping Leicester City will be a daunting task. Stealing at least a point at home against the Foxes is not impossible, but it will take maximum effort and some luck.
Predictions
Newcastle United will be major underdogs tomorrow. It will be interesting to see how well the Magpies handle the pressure of performing against a top team after losing two games in a row, but Carson and I are not optimistic in that regard. Here are our predictions for tomorrow’s game:
- Carson A. Merk: Newcastle United 1-3 Leicester City
- Durim Halimi: Newcastle United 1-2 Leicester City
