The Premier League transfer window closes on August 8th and Newcastle United need to make three more signings.

Newcastle United were quiet all summer until they smashed their transfer record by spending £40m to secure the services of Joelinton from Hoffenheim on Tuesday. That move was welcomed by the majority of fans and it certainly took the other 19 teams in the Premier League by surprise. The Magpies also completed the free transfer of former Chelsea academy midfielder Kyle Scott earlier this week. The club hope he can follow in the footsteps of Sean Longstaff.

Steve Bruce has been transparent with the media when asked about other signings and he made it clear that the club is working hard to bring in some more talent before the window closes. No one really knows how many players the Toon plan on signing over the next 12 days, but the club should focus on signing at least three players – another striker, a winger and a left-back.

Striker

The club just spent a large amount of money on Joelinton, but another striker is needed on Tyneside. So far, the Magpies secondary strikers consist of Dwight Gayle, Yoshinori Muto and Elias Sorensen. Gayle and Muto have struggled to score goals in the Top Flight and they lack the quality to be regular starters alongside Joelinton. Sorensen is an exciting young prospect, but he is far from ready to be a first team starter. The Magpies have a few targets in mind – Danny Welbeck, Andy Carroll, Charlie Austin and Marrony – but they must act quickly before too many clubs join the race for those players.

Winger

Newcastle United are in dire need of a quality winger. Matt Ritchie is a reliable winger who can start every match, but players like Christian Atsu, Jacob Murphy and Rolando Aarons lack the proper skills and consistency to be starters. Miguel Almiron is traditionally a central attacking midfielder, but he has been playing out wide because he is the best available option. The Toon seem determined to bring in Allan Saint-Maximin from OGC Nice and his arrival would provide the team with a major boost offensively. In addition, signing Saint-Maximin could allow Almiron to move into the number 10 role where he is most effective.

Left-Back

Newcastle United need more depth and competition at left-back. DeAndre Yedlin and Javier Manquillo are the only left-backs on the roster, so an upgrade is definitely needed. Three left-backs from other leagues have been linked with Newcastle United. Of the three defenders linked with a move to St. James’ Park, fans are most excited about Djibril Sidibe from AS Monaco. The 2018 World Cup winner would definitely be an upgrade at left-back and the good news is that he is available for the bargain price of £13.5m.
