Newcastle United are interested in signing Miguel Almiron and his agent was at St. James’ Park on Saturday.
Just when everyone thought that Arsenal beat Newcastle United and West Ham in the race for Miguel Almiron, it turns out that the MLS star is still up for grabs. According to a recent report, Almiron’s agent, Daniel Campos, confirmed his attendance at St. James’ Park last weekend where he witnessed Newcastle’s 2-1 victory over Bournemouth.
There are many positives to take from Campos’ attendance at St. James’ Park. Firstly, the timing was perfect. Campos observed Newcastle play with confidence and urgency as they defeated a Bournemouth side that was in the top six heading into the match. Secondly, Campos got a first-hand look and feel of the fervent atmosphere in St. James’ Park – an atmosphere that motivates the Toon and intimidates the opposition.
With that being said, Newcastle fans should be excited because this could mean that Almiron is strongly considering a move to Tyneside in January. His presence on the roster would undoubtedly make Newcastle more competitive in the Premier League.
Break the Bank for Almiron
Newcastle are reportedly interested in signing the talented Paraguay international who is enjoying great form with his current club, Atlanta United, in the MLS. Almiron is a star player across the Atlantic and it is quite evident that he is ready for a new challenge that will help him elevate his status as a player.
With 12 goals and 13 assists this season, the Paraguay international has shown that he is a promising and reliable playmaker who can influence any match in his team’s favor. Major clubs such as Arsenal and Tottenham are also in the running for Almiron’s services, but Newcastle would be the best option for the 24-year-old attacking midfielder for the following reasons.
If Almiron went to Arsenal or Tottenham he would experience a major demotion from being a star player in Atlanta to being a rotational player off the bench. Playing for a major club would enable him to enjoy some collective success at the domestic and continental level, but he would not grow much as an individual player.
If Almiron came to Newcastle, he would be the main man just behind the front-line. Rafa Benitez appreciates Ayoze Perez, but he stands no chance against Almiron’s pace, superior passing and precise shooting. Almiron would further develop his skills on Tyneside and could better promote his skills on a mid-table team that would give him plenty of opportunities to succeed.
The transfer window will open in less than two months and Newcastle must do whatever they can to sign Almiron. Benitez has been searching for a dynamic playmaker in midfield and he has a chance to secure Almiron’s services in January.
