Before the real clubs kick off in a few hours, FIFA 19 gives us a look at the virtual Newcastle United at Manchester United match.

Today could be a big day in the soccer world. Newcastle United face a Manchester United side that is struggling on the pitch, dealing with media scrutiny, and with a manager that may already be on his way out. For Newcastle United, they will try to put the nail in Jose Mourinho’s coffin at Man U and also secure their first win of the season in the process. FIFA 19 gave us an early look at the matchup.

Manchester United’s lineup was unchanged from their midweek draw with Valencia. The Magpies’ starting XI was the best consensus of our staff predictions. That gave us a 4-4-1-1 formation with Dubravka; Yedlin, Lascelles, Fernandez, Kenedy; Ritchie, Ki, Shelvey, Atsu; Perez; Muto.

The Toon got out on the front foot first and it was a thing of beauty. Building from the back, Federico Fernandez started the attack with an interception. He found Jonjo Shelvey, who fired a through ball to Yoshinori Muto. He passed it to his right, Ayoze Perez dummied it, and Matt Ritchie fired a shot from a tight angle. Unfortunately, David de Gea made the stop, but it was great looking soccer early on from the visitors. Perez’s header off the ensuing corner was collected easily by Manchester’s star goalkeeper.

Around the half-hour mark, Ayoze would fire just wide of the goal after another quality counter-attack. At the break, it was 0-0 with Manchester United registering no shots compared to Newcastle United’s three, two of which were on target. The Red Devils did hold 59% of possession.

In the second half, it was the most embattled player for Manchester United that opened the scoring. After picking off a pass in the middle of the park. Paul Pogba sped past Newcastle United defenders and beat Martin Dubravka to the far post from outside the area.

The first substitute for the Toon was Joselu coming on to replace Ayoze. Minutes later, Pogba nearly added his second, but he was turned away by a Dubravka kick save. Muto nearly equalized in the 81st minute, but de Gea parried the shot out of danger.
