FIFA 18 previews Newcastle United vs. West Brom
As we approach kickoff, FIFA 18 gave us a preview of Newcastle United vs. West Brom.
Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion are getting ready to kick off in less than an hour. But, before that, FIFA 18 gave us an early look with a simulation between the Magpies and Baggies.
The lineups were announced at the top of the hour and were reflected in the simulation. For West Brom, it was: Foster, Nyom, Gibbs, Livermore, Rondon, Phillips, Brunt, McClean, Rodriguez, Dawson, and Hegazi. The Newcastle United side featured one change from Monday’s loss to Everton. The starting XI was: Dubravka, Yedlin, Lascelles, Clark, Dummett, Shelvey, Diame, Kenedy, Perez, Ritchie, and Gayle.
Matt Ritchie brought the first action, using his skill on the ball to work his way towards the end line. Unfortunately, his cross was not met in the middle and rolled through the penalty area harmlessly. Minutes later, a Kenedy cross would find Ayoze Perez, but his chip was weak and well wide of the goal.

West Brom would open the scoring in the 17th minute. Allan Nyom sent in a lovely ball and Jay Rodriguez headed it past Martin Dubravka. Florian Lejeune was guilty of allowing Rodriguez beating him to the ball.
Dwight Gayle made a great run into the area but decided to try and lay the ball back when pressed by the defense and gave away possession. West Brom was happy to sit their defenders deep after scoring that opening goal and it seemed to frustrate the Magpies’ attack. DeAndre Yedlin was surprisingly not as willing to push forward, which eliminated some width to the offense. The scoreline remained 1-0 at the break.
Newcastle United opened with more possession to start the second half but still struggled to break through a compact West Brom defense. Islam Slimani replaced Dwight Gayle in the 60th minute. Shortly after, Jacob Murphy came on for Kenedy. Slimani immediately helped the Newcastle United attack, holding up the ball and finding players around the area. He also had a shot blocked by a diving defender.
