Before the real clubs kickoff, FIFA 18 shows us a simulation of Newcastle United vs. Everton.

Newcastle United and Everton kick off in a few hours. Ahead of that, we allow FIFA 18 to give you a look at a simulation between the two sides.

For the Toffees, we left their lineup unchanged from the match against Swansea City, a 4-2-3-1 composed of Pickford; Coleman, Jagielka, Keane, Baines; Schneiderlin, Gueye; Walcott, Rooney, Bolasie; Tosun.

The Newcastle United lineup came from a compilation of our staff predictions. All four predictions had ten of the same players, with an even split between Islam Slimani and Dwight Gayle up top. We went with Gayle on a tiebreaker of he’s started every match during this winning streak. The lineup was a 4-2-3-1 featuring: Dubravka; Yedlin, Lascelles, Lejeune, Dummett; Diame, Shelvey; Ritchie, Perez, Kenedy; Gayle.

Wayne Rooney, the lone goal scorer in the reverse fixture, opened the match with two shots on frame. Neither troubled Martin Dubravka, but it showcased an aggressive mentality from the English veteran and his club. Newcastle United’s attack was snuffed out repeatedly as they made their move into the attacking third. Ayoze Perez also had a shot blocked just outside the penalty area.

More from Newcastle Toons

The 35th minute saw Perez and Dwight Gayle combine for a solid one-two, but Gayle’s shot rolled just wide of the post. Minutes later, Matt Ritchie found Perez on a run down the middle of the area, but he skied the shot. At half-time, the match was scoreless.

Looking for a goal, Islam Slimani replaced Dwight Gayle in the 60th minute and Jacob Murphy came on for Matt Ritchie minutes later. Oumar Niasse replaced the dangerous Cenk Tosun in the 65th minute for Everton.

A crucial moment in the match came when DeAndre Yedlin attempted to poke the ball away from Niasse as he ran onto a through ball in the box. Unfortunately, he caught the striker’s ankle and Big Sam’s side was awarded a 70th-minute penalty kick. Leighton Baines stepped up and slipped it past Dubravka, despite the keeper guessing the right side and getting a hand on the shot.

Slimani nearly leveled the match in the 83rd minute when a powerful header met a fingertip save. He also got his head on the ensuing corner kick, but it went wide. Three minutes of added time wasn’t enough for Newcastle United to find a winner. They led on shots and trailed possession barely at 51% to 49%. Just like the reverse fixture, Everton took a 1-0 result.
