FIFA 18: Newcastle United vs. Leicester City simulation
FIFA 18 previews today’s match between Newcastle United and Leicester City.
Newcastle United hosts Leicester City this afternoon. Before the real clubs play, FIFA 18 gave us a look at the virtual teams’ fixture.
The Leicester City lineup was unchanged from last week, outside of Matty James replacing the suspended Wilfred Ndidi. For Newcastle United, the lineup was based on our staff predictions. The consensus from those four projections gave us a 4-2-3-1 featuring: Dubravka; Yedlin, Lascelles, Lejeune, Dummett; Shelvey, Diame; Ritchie, Perez, Kenedy; Gayle.
Jamie Vardy was aggressive early on but had two poor plays in the first ten minutes. He seemed to have a shot on goal but tried to lay the ball back outside the box and it was intercepted.

Then, he had a wide open Shinji Okazaki, but the striker decided to have a go himself and the shot went well wide. Riyad Mahrez curled a shot just wide in the 13th minute.

Kenedy was the most active player for the Toon early, but he also seemed to be the focal point of the Leicester defense. Two players ran at him every time he tried to attack. The first shot of the match for Newcastle United came in the 29th minute and it was the closest effort yet for either side. A Matt Ritchie cross met Dwight Gayle in the middle of the area, and he spun to head the ball. Unfortunately, his header rang off the post and was cleared away by the Foxes’ defense.
Newcastle United would concede a goal before the half. Mahrez centered a pass towards Okazaki, who banked the shot off the right post and in. At the break, Leicester led in possession, 54% to 46%, and in shots, six to one.
Joselu replaced Gayle early in the second half and almost leveled the match immediately. He froze Casper Schmeichel with a shot from outside the area, but it hit the crossbar.

Energized by the dangerous chance, Newcastle United began to control the ball. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a lot of possession with little danger. They mustered no more shots and took the loss, 1-0 at King Power Stadium.
