Newcastle United’s skipper has yet another club eyeing his signature this summer.

Newcastle United and manager Rafa Benitez are set to battle Leicester City tomorrow afternoon, looking to make it three Premier League wins on the bounce. Three points would help in their quest to avoid relegation, and now it seems that it will be very difficult to avoid bids for their captain this summer.

A report in The Telegraph this week states that Tottenham are considering adding various defensive reinforcements in the upcoming transfer window, and Jamaal Lascelles is one of the players listed. The 24-year-old is currently enjoying another fantastic season for the Toon, and proving that he has the quality to produce in the top flight.

Jonny Evans of West Brom and Matthijs de Ligt of Ajax were also mentioned as potential options. On top of excellent defensive work, Lascelles has scored three league goals in the current term.

It is understandable to see this type of interest for the centre-back, as it is not the first time that fans are hearing of other sides interested in adding him.

Both Chelsea and West Ham have been linked with Lascelles, and it will definitely not be an easy task to ensure that he remains with Newcastle for the future.

Owner Mike Ashley must do all that he can to keep the defender at St. James’ Park. However, the international stage could complicate matters in the coming weeks.

The Three Lions

Lascelles wants to be a part of the England national team, and has the attention of manager Gareth Southgate.

A move to a club like Tottenham or Chelsea could boost his chances of receiving a call-up, as both sides are often represented in the squad. It is important for the board to show that the Magpies are once again rising in English football, and there is no reason for the Toon to be seen as a stepping stone to other destinations.
