Newcastle United links to Seydou Doumbia are hilarious (and a bit scary)

Newcastle United wouldn’t bring him back. Would they?
Newcastle United and manager Rafa Benitez continue the push for Premier League survival this season, and are focused on avoiding another term in the Championship. One of the issues for the club has been scoring goals with consistency, and one option to fix that problem is a familiar name to the Toon Army.
Reports this week have linked Seydou Doumbia with a return to Tyneside, with the striker’s current loan at Sporting CP set to expire at the end of the campaign. The 30-year-old signed on-loan with the Toon in February of 2016, and absolutely nothing came of his addition.
Doumbia would make only three appearances for United in a relegation-bound journey, and questions about his fitness were asked often.
All could certainly be different two years later, but this seems like the last situation that Benitez would want to have in his team at the moment.
Doumbia has not re-captured the goalscoring form that he displayed at CSKA Moscow, and there is little evidence that he ever will.
The need for an effective forward is present, and that will definitely be an aspect that the club looks at during the next transfer window.

However, bringing back an individual that can cause such angst and provide so little would only be toxic.
Extremely unlikely
At the other end, one can’t help but wonder why Doumbia himself would want that type of pressure. New surroundings are needed for him, and moving to the Premier League could be a positive (Swansea are also reported to be interested).
St. James’ Park would expect quite a bit from him to make up for such a mess two years ago. It all seems unnecessary and risky for the Ivorian international.

Newcastle United and Rafa Benitez will be keen to add a striker this summer. If it turns out to be Seydou Doumbia, I would be absolutely stunned with disbelief.
