Newcastle United lost a lead and finished level with Bournemouth.

It was a frustrating ending for Newcastle United today as they conceded twice late to finish level, 2-2 vs. Bournemouth.

Top Toons

The Center Back duo: Jamaal Lascelles and Florian Lejeune made countless clearances throughout the match. Whether it was heading away a cross or poking the ball away from an attacking player, they were crucial for Newcastle United.

Dwight Gayle: The striker bagged both goals and was active on and off the ball for the Magpies.

Matt Ritchie: Playing against his former club, Ritchie was all energy on the right wing. He had a couple efforts barely miss finding the net.

Mediocre Magpies

Ayoze Perez: Despite assisting on the second goal, Perez was poor at too many crucial moments today. He squandered chances on the break with poor passes and missed a sitter that could have put Newcastle United up 3-0 in the second half.

Kenedy: The Chelsea loanee worked hard, but he didn’t have his top dribbling form today. He gave the ball away too easily and had two poor shooting efforts.

More from Newcastle Toons

-For 99% of the match, Jonjo Shelvey would have been a Top Toon. He passed the ball with purpose and precision, setting up chance after chance for Newcastle United. Unfortunately, his miss in the second half was arguably the biggest moment of the match.

-Martin Dubravka played another solid match, making a couple big saves and overcoming an injury inflicted by Shelvey. He was left little chance to stop either Bournemouth goal.

-DeAndre Yedlin made some big clearances and was involved in the attack, per usual.

-Gayle did well to put home both his goals. They weren’t world class strikes, but he took advantage of two opportunities, a trait that’s been missing at times this season.

-The final result took a lot of wind out of the sails of Toon Army and Newcastle United. They played so well for most of the match, only to give the three points away late.

What’s Next?

The road doesn’t get easier for Newcastle United next time out. Next Saturday, they travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool, who currently sit 2nd on the table. Jurgen Klopp’s men are undefeated in their last four matches and blew out West Ham 4-1 today. Mohamed Salah is arguably the hottest player in the soccer world right now and stopping him will be paramount for Newcastle United to see any success.
