Newcastle United have their eye on La Liga for their midfield future.

Newcastle United and manager Rafa Benitez only have a few days left in the January transfer window to make an impact for their team, as they continue their search for reinforcements. A productive striker will be important, but the Magpies may soon be addressing the midfield.

Reports this week have Newcastle joining the chase for Real Betis’ Fabian Ruiz, with several other clubs also showing interest. The likes of Barcelona and Arsenal are believed to be monitoring the Spanish international’s situation, and may be keen to make a deal happen as well.

Ruiz has a release clause in his contract set at €15 million according to El Confidencial.

The 21-year-old brings many qualities that United would be thrilled to add, and he is enjoying a strong current campaign with Los Verdiblancos.

Betis have been one of the most exciting sides in Europe this season, as Ruiz has helped to push their high-powered attack forward.

Sharp passing and excellent vision allow him to influence the game from various spots in the midfield alignment.

The difficult element for the potential transfer will be the money involved (shocking, right?!). With other players rumoured to be in their sights also, it would not be easy to see Mike Ashley spending enough for several signings.

Jorgensen’s future

The pursuit of striker Nicolai Jorgensen is set to smash Newcastle’s club-record transfer fee. If that is the case, Ruiz may not make it to Tyneside.

United certainly do not want to miss out on talent that can produce both this season and beyond. However, competing financially against Barcelona and Arsenal for players would likely not end well for the Toon Army.

Newcastle United and Rafa Benitez need to ensure that they remain in the Premier League. Fabian Ruiz could be a key to that taking place if they can secure his services.
