A historical look at Newcastle United vs. Leicester City
Newcastle United lead in the all-time series with Leicester City.
Before Saturday’s match, Newcastle United and Leicester City have faced off 120 times. The Magpies have won 51, lost 42, and finished level in 27.
The first 11 times the clubs met, beginning in 1894, Leicester was known as Leicester Fosse. The Foxes only won two of those fixtures. Newcastle United would go winless against Leicester in five matches across 1926 through 1928.
No club won more than a couple matches in a row until 1958 when Newcastle won four straight. That streak was followed up by a run of four straight victories for Leicester City.

The biggest blowout in the rivalry was a 7-1 Newcastle United victory in 1993. The next year the clubs met for the first time in the Premier League, another win for the Magpies. That match featured a pair of hat tricks for Andy Cole and David Kelly, sandwiched around a Rob Lee goal.
The 2000’s weren’t pleasant for Leicester City. After the Foxes won a Premier League fixture in April 2000, they wouldn’t win another match vs. Newcastle United until 2015, nine total matches. Newcastle won five of the nine. Both clubs played in the Championship in 2009/10, with a NUFC win and draw in the lower division.
Leicester City is sitting on a four-match winning streak since ending that winless run of the last decade. They swept the two matches against Newcastle during their 2015/16 Premier League winning season. That season also sent the Magpies into relegation.
