Newcastle United: Toon Takeaways vs. Swansea City
After the international break, Newcastle United reopened Premier League play with a victory. Rafa Benitez, who did not manage the match due to health issues, will surely be pleased with his club’s 1-0 win on the road over Swansea City. A second half header by Jamaal Lascelles was the difference and it was a second consecutive clean sheet for Rob Elliot.
Top Toons
Jamaal Lascelles: The Magpies captain scored a goal and saved another. After Tammy Abraham danced around Rob Elliot, Lascelles slid in to save the ball before it could break the tie. Not long after, he rose up to head home a corner from Matt Ritchie.
Mikel Merino: A master distributing the ball again, Merino continues to impress. It will not be easy for Jonjo Shelvey to displace the Spaniard.
Rob Elliot: Back to back clean sheets for the veteran keeper. He made a couple massive saves to keep Swansea off the board.

Mediocre Magpies
Ayoze Perez: It could be argued that Perez has been the most disappointing performer in most of Newcastle United’s action so far this season. It was another ineffective match, especially in the finishing department, for the forward.
Isaac Hayden: While it would be tough for Shelvey to replace Merino, he may be able to supplant Hayden. He did not perform well against Swansea and could find himself on the bench against Stoke City.
Jacob Murphy: The high money summer signing finally got a start in league play. He wasn’t remarkably poor, but he certainly didn’t seize his opportunity. The biggest moment for him was accidentally getting in the way of Joselu’s first half shot.
Pivotal Moment
Jamaal Lascelles’ match winner. The skipper got on the end of a second half Matt Ritchie corner and gave NUFC the victory.
