New arrivals are still possible, and each bring unique characteristics.

Newcastle United and manager Rafa Benitez will return to business after the international break this week, and will begin preparations for an important match at Swansea on Sunday. The transfer deadline day may have been a missed opportunity, but the Magpies still have options in regards to improving the squad.

Quality players that are currently out of contract can be a strong possibility for reinforcements, and it will be important for the club to consider those that could help boost depth and contribute in the line-up.

The key to these types of signings is understanding where the players would fit in the team, and ensuring that risk is as low as possible.

While the costs may not be high as arrivals through the transfer market, a wrong move could disrupt morale and chemistry in the locker room.

Fans were angered by the failings of the summer transfer period, and rightfully so. But it is important to focus on the positives, and build from Newcastle’s solid victory over West Ham United.

A priority should be aiming for that momentum to continue, and Benitez may be able to sign talent after the transfer deadline to make that happen.
