Newcastle United ready to give up on Siem de Jong
Siem de Jong’s time with Newcastle United may soon be coming to an end.
This offseason, it seemed like Siem de Jong may get a chance to earn some time with Newcastle United’s first team. He was eager to test himself in the Premier League. After years of disappointment with the club, de Jong was possibly in line to get a look as a number 10 for Rafa Benitez. However, now it seems he doesn’t have a place on the roster at all.
There are rumors that Ajax and Newcastle United are currently deep in negotiations to send de Jong back to Holland.

He made nearly 200 appearances and was the captain for Ajax before signing Tyneside in 2014. Siem also spent time in the Eredivisie on loan last season with PSV.
His career with Newcastle United will be regarded as a massive flop, not unlike his brother Luuk’s loan stint with the club. Siem was often injured and will end his Newcastle career with less than 30 appearances in three years. This preseason opener against Hearts gave Toon Army a glimpse at de Jong at his best. He set up Dwight Gayle’s goal with a lovely assist, but never really stood out after that. He hasn’t featured in either of Newcastle United’s first two Premier League matches.
Siem de Jong leaving the club marks the end of another Alan Pardew signing. He thought de Jong would be the centerpiece of Newcastle’s attack, serving as the chief distributor. Pardew even felt de Jong could replace the departing Yohan Cabaye.
Newcastle United will be wise to get the disappointing de Jong off their books, as Rafa continues to look for additions the rest of this transfer window.
