After lighting up the Championship, Dwight Gayle is ready to lead Newcastle United in the Premier League.

Dwight Gayle is ready to prove his doubters wrong as he returns to the Premier League with Newcastle United. The striker started preseason in the perfect manner, by scoring two goals against Hearts. Newcastle’s number nine is ready to take his impressive goal scoring form to the Premier League.

More from Newcastle Toons

Gayle has already had a taste of Premier League football with his former club Crystal Palace. However, the striker failed to nail down a place in starting line-up, Gayle is now heading into the new Premier League season as the Magpies’ main forward. The former Crystal Palace man is eager to succeed in the Premier League for Newcastle, as he looks to silence his critics.

Newcastle’s number nine was in irresistible form in the Championships last season, as he netted an impressive 23 times in 34 appearances. Although Gayle has a lot of work to do to become as lethal in the Premier League as he was in the Championship, the striker possess all the attributes to do so.

During the 2015/16 season Newcastle struggled in front of goal, scoring just 44 times over the course of the season. However in Gayle, Newcastle finally have a natural goal scorer to help them stay away from danger next season. Meanwhile, Rafael Benitez  has tightened his defence by signing Florian Lejeune from Eibar, his focus will now shift to improving attacking areas.

Newcastle are closing in on the signing of Jacob Murphy from Norwich City, a player that will add more creativity next season. No doubt Dwight Gayle will be hoping to thrive on the service provided by his teammates during the next campaign. Furthermore, Gayle will want to share the workload with another striker, in order to take some of the pressure off his shoulders.

At present Newcastle have Dwight Gayle, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez to call upon in the striking department. Emmanuel Riviere will surely leave the club this summer, while Adam Armstrong has joined Bolton Wanderers on loan. Mitrovic does not score enough for the amount of chances he gets and Perez lacks a bit of consistency. Thus, leaving Gayle as the “Go to” striker. This highlights the fact that Newcastle need another striker to ensure they are safe from relegation next season. Gayle is full of confidence heading into the new season, and will hope his hamstring troubles are behind him.

This transfer window has been difficult for many teams, with inflated prices due to the Premier League TV deal. Nevertheless, Benitez is eager to complete the majority of his business by the time Newcastle play Tottenham.
