Newcastle United: Bradley Lowery was a bright light across British soccer
Bradley Lowery passed away today after a courageous battle with cancer that inspired Newcastle United and the rest of the soccer world.
They say not all heroes wear capes. That was 100% true in the case of young Bradley Lowery. The youngster dealt with something no person, especially early in their life, should have to deal with: cancer.

Today, Bradley became another victim of the awful disease. It’s not accurate to say he “lost his battle with cancer” because he was too big of a superstar to be defeated. He came into the public light as a charismatic, soccer fanatic that was fighting neuroblastoma, a rare cancer he was diagnosed with before he turned two years old.
He was the mascot for multiple Premier League sides and the English national team. He was mostly seen with Sunderland, always right beside his hero Jermain Defoe. The striker spent countless hours with Bradley and his family, in his hospital and at home. Bradley scored a well struck penalty before the Black Cats’ match against Chelsea. Bradley’s smile could make anyone smile on their worst day, especially because you knew chances were his day was worse than any you or I will ever experience.
Lowery’s battle was a cause that everyone could get behind. Rivals on the pitch like Sunderland and Newcastle United shared affection for Bradley, united by his fighting spirit.
Since his passing, countless tweets went out from clubs and players offering his family condolences and sharing positive memories they have of Bradley, including from Newcastle’s official club account and Toon legend Alan Shearer. Countless donations and charitable efforts were made on Bradley’s behalf.
Just because Bradley is no longer here on Earth, doesn’t mean his story has ended. His positivity and passion while enduring a horrible illness inspired millions. Hopefully, one day we will not have to deal with losing any loved ones to cancer. The less Bradley Lowery type personalities we lose, the better this world will be. In this age, one where division is so prevalent, it was a beautiful thing to see Bradley bring so many people together with his smile, fight, and love for life. Our writers here at Newcastle Toons offer our thoughts and love to his family, as well as everyone that knew him and loved him. The soccer world lost a future star today and Bradley Lowery will never be forgotten.
