Following their 1-0 victory over Wolves, Newcastle United will take on Norwich City tomorrow.

In a quick turnaround from their Saturday win at Wolves, Newcastle United will do battle with Norwich City tomorrow at Carrow Road. Dwight Gayle may make his return, or the club could wait one more match before bringing him back. Currently atop the EFL table, here’s how Newcastle United can extend their lead by beating Norwich City:

1. Possess, then press

Despite beating Wolves on Saturday, the Newcastle United attack was disjointed. For a huge portion of the match, any time a defender, or even midfielder won possession in their own half, they just fire the ball away. Whether it was a clear, or a very wishful attempt to connect on a long pass, it gave Wolves the ball right back. The lack of fluidity in the attack also limited Jonjo Shelvey’s match impact. Tomorrow, Newcastle needs to make sure they are keeping their wits, and working the ball around. Shelvey orchestrates the attack, but that’s not possible when the offensive gameplan is simply to boot the ball down field.

2. Cage The Canaries At Carrow Road

Norwich City has the highest scoring offense at home in the entire Sky Bet Championship. They’ve scored 34 goals in just 15 matches at Carrow Road this season. Their scoring is well distributed, with five players having five or more league goals. Thankfully for Newcastle United, they are the best defensive team in away matches in the Championship. Their eight goals allowed on the road is the league best by a margin of seven! Karl Darlow’s form, combined with a back line playing its best soccer should allow the Magpies to stifle the Canaries.

3. Big Day For Hayden

Isaac Hayden will most likely be back in the starting lineup ahead of Jack Colback. That is music to most of Newcastle United’s supporters. Colback was brutal to watch again Saturday, and Hayden has been in good form lately. It could make for a great game for Hayden, or Yoan Gouffran to be big contributors. Especially if Dwight Gayle returns, Hayden could notch an assist or two.
