Amid reports of turmoil between Rafa Benitez and ownership, it’s important not to get too worked up.
Let me start by stating the obvious: If Rafa Benitez departs Newcastle United anytime soon, they will be much worse off. You would be hard pressed to find anyone who disagrees with that. The reason this is such a talking point right now is, following a fruitless transfer window, rumors are that Rafa may consider departing this summer. A lot of it is rooted in a rumored, less than ideal relationship between he and Mike Ashley. Rafa thought he had more money to spend, he didn’t, they got no players. That’s a simple breakdown of the alleged situation. It’s very likely this is true. It’s also highly possible he is considering bolting this summer, if he’s not given a legitimate chance to improve the roster to his liking.

My issue is the mass chaos that has ensued on social media, and even in the media, in response to this. Very few, if any, of the articles published say there’s a chance he leaves before this season’s over. Whew! You will have a top manager while the club treks on towards promotion. There is no reason to have a negative outlook on the rest of the 2016-17 season because of a possible, negative future possibility. Toon Army, your club is in second place, in line to move up, enjoy the moment. Think back to how you felt last season, when relegation fear was setting in. Don’t do that to yourselves again with a potential Rafa departure.
I know, it’s easier said than done. It’s natural human instinct to worry, especially about an uncertain future. But, bask in this season. Dwight Gayle has 20 goals, the first player since Alan Shearer. Jonjo Shelvey is an absolute magician with his passing, don’t take his time Tyneside for granted.
The long term future of Rafa Benitez at Newcastle United is murky right now. But, the short term future is bright, despite the last week. Support the club, sing your hearts out, and don’t keep yourself up at night worrying about what might happen. Just enjoy your second place club, and let’s go get promoted, with Rafa as our manager.
