How did Newcastle United’s new guys do?

Grant Hanley

Grant Hanley’s performance was really poor overall. Mistakes and lack of discipline were what really showed. I already criticized the selection of Hanley over Chancel Mbemba.

Hanley didn’t even come across to me as someone who could make it in the Premier League. His mistakes were ones that he should never have even came close to making. He nearly created a penalty for Fulham, and his presence was less than imposed.

More from Newcastle Toons

Grant Hanley has a lot of work to do before he can live up to his £5m price tag. It was a bit inflated to begin with, but hopefully, Rafa’s choice pays off. Even the best managers make mistakes, and there was a year or two when he was manager of Liverpool where he bought poorly.

Hanley was coming in as the former captain of Blackburn Rovers. That leadership was not on display. In the coming matches, he will need to step up and work on that leadership and become the backbone of Newcastle United’s defense if he’s going to stay a starter.

Hopefully, we can just complain about Hanley.
