Newcastle transfers: Peter Crouch links are rubbish
By Bryan Nelson
It’s been an interesting time to be a writer about Newcastle United. We’re not quite sure what to believe. And this new Peter Crouch rumor is gathering steam.
It started about yesterday with rumors coming out that Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez was interested in bringing a former player of his to Newcastle United. Peter Crouch is the name, the striker for Premier League club Stoke City.
He played for Liverpool during 2005 up until 2008. During that span he only scored 22 goals in 85 league appearances. It wasn’t the best run, but it helped get the job done as those were some of Liverpool’s most successful years.
Crouch has been little more than a utility player throughout his career. Never scoring more than 12 goals in a single Premier League season, his international career ended in 2010. At the age of 35, many must wonder what Benitez thinks he’s going to get out of Crouch.

His career is winding down, with just 11 appearances for Stoke last season in the Premier League, he didn’t score at all. Once a player who was feared by other teams to face is now slowly fading away.
So let me make this very clear to all who have been hearing the rumors. The Chronicle has not reported on the rumor, The Daily Mail has little to say about the rumor, and Sky has absolutely nothing concerning the rumor.
That’s right. With this rumor, I’m telling you to disregard it, put it in a bag and throw it away. Because it is complete garbage. Newcastle United already signed a striker this season and still has the likes of Adam Armstrong, Aleksandar Mitrovic, and Ayoze Perez. That’s still quality injury coverage as well.

The club is going after defensive options right now because that is the focus, not a former Liverpool player who never truly lived up to his expectations and is considered by many to be one of Benitez’s “bad buys”. Grant Hanley, a potential Reece Oxford loan, and others are the main focus for the Northeast club, not signing a striker who is on his way out of the game and should have retired sooner.
You can read up about the rumors all you want, but you’ll find that they all say the same exact thing. If Benitez wants a reunion, I’m sure they’ll both get a coffee sometime.
