Newcastle United drew 0-0 with Aston Villa on Saturday in the Barclays Premier League.
The result leaves the Magpies with a fight on their hands to avoid relegation after north-east rivals Sunderland beat Chelsea 3-2.
After coming from behind twice, Jermain Defoe hit the winner to give the Black Cats a real chance of survival, while an insipid display from the Tyneside club could seal their fate.

Despite going four game unbeaten at before the Villa game, Newcastle played without the commitment and energy that gave them the required results from those previous fixtures.
To not score against the league’s bottom side is to invite trouble, and neither Papiss Cisse nor Aleksandar Mitrovic managed to bother Mark Bunn in the home team goal.
The result drops the Magpies back into the relegation zone, and one point below Sunderland who have a game in hand.
