Newcastle beat Swansea City 3-0 on Saturday, with Aleksandar Mitrovic claiming two assists after coming off the bench.

Spanish manager Rafa Benitez chose to start Papiss Cisse ahead of the Serbian, but introduced the summer signing after 80 minutes.

Mitrovic immediately made an impact as he set up the next two goals: one following his blocked header from a corner, and the second after he made a strong run and a clever pass to set us Andros Townsend.

The former Anderlecht star has been in good form recently, scoring three times in the last four games – but is Benitez’s preferred option from the bench.

Jonjo Shelvey was also dropped for the game as the Spaniard went for a midfield axis of Jack Colback and Cheick Tiote.

After the game, Benitez was reported by the BBC as saying: “If we stick together then it’s easier for us to approach the game and gives us the chance to win.”
