Newcastle United fans predicted relegation this time last year on the back of the club’s financial results.

When the Magpies released their set of data in March 2015, many Toon fans took to Twitter to criticise the side – and predicted their own downfall.

However, while a large majority of those thought the club would fall down the leagues if owner Mike Ashley failed to invest in the side.

While he has spent money, those predictions proved to be largely correct as Newcastle once again find themselves staring down the barrel.

There are only seven games remaining in the league this campaign, and the Magpies are six points away from safety.

Southampton are their next oopponents, a team which the Magpies have traditionally struggled against.
