Newcastle United goalkeeper Rob Elliot has experienced a breakthrough season for the Magpies.

However, he will miss the rest of the season after being badly hurt playing for the Republic of Ireland against Slovakia, and will be out for around six months.

This will end his dreams of playing in the Euro 2016 competition, while leaving the Tyneside club down to their third choice goalkeeper.

Karl Darlow will now have to step in for the last eight games of the campaign as the team seek to avoid relegation.

However, Toon teammate Jamaal Lascelles insisted that Darlow could handle the pressure though. “Karl can handle it. Honestly,” the Mirror reported that he said.

“He is a really good goalkeeper, given the chance — which he hasn’t had.”
