Newcastle United lost to Stoke City last night in the Premier League thanks to an 80th minute Xherdan Shaqiri goal.

Steve McClaren had instructed his team to sit deep and try and hit the Potters on the counter, but they were ineffective in attack as strong winds buffeted the Britannia Stadium.

The defeat leaves the Magpies in the bottom three and at serious risk of relegation after Swansea City came from behind to beat Arsenal 2-1.

Among the issues raised by the Toon Army was McClaren’s use of substitutes, and his continued non-selection of Seydou Doumbia.
