Newcastle United have finally signed Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend.

The two clubs agreed a fee of £12m for the England international earlier in the month, after Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino personally intervened to request chairman Daniel Levy accept the Toon offer.

Head coach Steve McClaren has been trying to increase the quality of the squad, as long as the amount of players with Premier League experience – and this signing fits the bill perfectly.

Speaking after the deal, McClaren was reported on nufc.co.uk as saying: “Bringing Andros to the Club is a great signing.

“He is a very good talent who is a current England international and should be one for years to come, too,” the former England manager continued.

“Andros is a winger with an old-fashioned style. He can play on the right or the left, is two-footed, quick, very direct and loves taking on defenders and crossing the ball.
