Former Newcastle United legend Steve Harper has moved to Sunderland on a short-term deal.

After letting go of Costel Pantilimon to Watford, Black Cats manager Sam Allardyce has moved to bring Harper to the club as a third choice goalkeeper.

The 40-year-old played for the Magpies for 10 years, and despite being born nearer to Sunderland than Newcastle, many fans have taken to Twitter to vent about his move.

The ‘keeper is unlikely to play any football for the Wearside club, and has been signed to provide mentorship to bright prospect Jordan Pickford.

The Toon Army is largly split down the middle on how they feel about one of their own joining such a bitter rival. Many think there is no problem with Harper collecting a last pay day before retirement, while others think there is no way the 40-year-old should play for Sunderland.
