Newcastle United picked up a much needed three points after beating West Ham United on Saturday.

The home side got off to a great start, with two goals after just 25 minutes from Ayoze Perez and Georginio Wijnaldum hit the back of the net.

Perez opened the scoring in front of the Gallowgate End with a delightful finish and a wonderfully worked sequence of passes.

New signing Jonjo Shelvey was involved, as he played an excellent pass into the feet of Moussa Sissoko, who laid the ball off to the Spaniard. He only needed to take one touch before curling the ball past Adrian and into the back of the net.

Wijnaldum’s goal came from an even better pass from Shelvey, who picked out Daryl Janmaat on the right hand wing from well inside his own half.

The Dutchman sent a perfect cross into the box, and Wijnaldum met it perfectly with his head to double Newcastle’s lead.

West Ham clawed a goal back through Nikica Jelavić, but it ultimately wasn’t enough.
