Newcastle United lost to Watford in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

Despite naming a strong team, Steve McClaren’s men could not muster up enough quality to beat the Hornets on their home turf.

Captain Troy Deeney scored the only goal of the game, and condemned the Magpies to exit the competition at the third round for the fourth year in a row.

McClaren decided to play in a 3-5-2 formation, and including Kevin Mbabu in the starting line up for the first time since the loss to Manchester City.

However, that gamble did not pay off as Newcastle went a fourth game without finding the back of the net. Despite the extra numbers in midfield, Florain Thauvin and Siem de Jong were not selected – leading to calls from the Toon Army for their inclusion.
