Newcastle United legend Malcolm MacDonald celebrates this 66th birthday on Thursday.

The striker scored 95 goals in 187 appearances for the Magpies, before he moved to Arsenal and had a fantastic hit rate for the Gunners – bagging 42 in 84 games.

After that, MacDonald left for Swedish side Djurgårdens IF, but he only played nine times and scored twice. Despite finding the back of the net 204 times throughout his career, the former Toon man was only capped 14 times by England, scoring six goals.

After scoring a hattrick on his debut against Liverpool, Supermac quickly become a favourite among many Newcastle fans. His best efforts came against the likes of Burnley and Bolton – from whom future Toon boss Sam Allardyce was also among the scorers.

MacDonald had a brief career in management after hanging up his boots, taking charge of Fulham for four years between 1980-1984 and Huddersfield Town between 1987 and 1988.
