Newcastle United fell to an undeserved 1-0 defeat away to Arsenal on Saturday.

Despite playing the better football for large parts of the game, the Magpies could not find a way through the Gunners defence and fell to a Laurent Koscielny goal during the second half.

Without any real width on the pitch, the Tyneside club were always going to struggle to provide ammunition for target man Aleksandar Mitrovic and support striker Ayoze Perez.

Newcastle are in serious need of January investment, with a goalscorer the key priority – followed by an attacking left back.

After the game, the BBC reported that head coach Steve McClaren said: “The players can’t believe it, we controlled and dominated the game after the first 10 minutes.”
