Newcastle United suffered an agonising 1-0 loss away to Arsenal on Saturday.
The Magpies needed a win to lift their spirits going into the new year, and their performance was one that merited a result.
However, a lack of finishing ability undermined the whole effort of the squad and Steve McClaren’s men eventually lost 1-0 thanks to a Laurent Koscielny goal.

Despite McClaren playing two strikers up front for another game, the Tyneside club failed to find the back of the net for a third game in succession.
Similarly, the scoreline was the same as their previous two losses: 1-0 at home to Everton and 1-0 away to West Bromwich Albion.
Speaking after the game, the Toon boss told the BBC: “The players can’t believe it, we controlled and dominated the game after the first 10 minutes.”
