Newcastle United suffered defeat from the last kick of the game to Everton.

Tom Cleverly headed home from a partially cleared corner to undo 94 minutes of excellent work by the Magpies, as they were condemned to spend the weekend in the relegation zone.

The former Manchester United player grabbed his first goal for the Toffies after latching on to a Rob Elliot punch to send a looping header into the back of the net.

A draw would have been a fair result, and one both sides would have taken. Everton had most of the ball, and played with more attacking intent, but the Magpies had the best chances from the game.

New summer signings Aleksandar Mitrovic and Georginio Wijnaldum both wasted headed chances, with Mitrovic heading wide following a glorious cross from Moussa Sissoko.
