Ayoze Perez has been linked with a move away from Newcastle United in the January transfer window.

Manchester United are reported to be interested in taking the Spaniard off the Magpies hands, but will have to pay a premium if they want him in their team for the second half of the season.

The former Tenerife attacker has been the one bright spark in an often gloomy Newcastle story for the past season and a half, and has excelled since joining the club under Alan Pardew.

Not much was expected of the player when he joined up with the Tyneside club, but after showing early promise he was promoted to the first team after injury to Pappis Cisse and a lack of options left Pardew with no choice.

He scored seven league goals last season, and has three this campaign already after scoring against Chelsea, Norwich City and Bournemouth.

Despite sitting out of the first few matches, Perez has become a regular starter as head coach Steve McLaren has preferred to partner him up front with Aleksandar Mitrovic.

But with a bid impending and Mike Ashley’s habit of accepting large offers that represent a profit for his players, could Newcastle be about to lose one of their most promising players in recent times?
