Anwar El Ghazi has been linked with a January move to Newcastle United from Ajax.

The 20-year-old has been in flying form for the Eredivisie side, and now the Magpies have taken notice and are preparing a January bid.

Chief scout Graeme Carr has watched El Ghazi three times during the past year, and are keen to bring him to Tyneside as he ticks a number of recruitment boxes.

Moussa Sissoko could leave the club during the upcoming window, but the Dutchman would be seen as a direct replacement for the wantaway midfielder.

Meanwhile, defender Kevin Mbabu has spoken of his delight at finally making his first team debut.

“This is always where I have wanted to be, in the first-team squad of a Premier League club,” the Chronicle reported that he said. “That’s what I am getting at the moment, I am enjoying every day I spend with the first team.”

The Swiss national continued: “It is now my time to shine. I have had lots of injury worries in the past, and people weren’t too happy because I was always injured.

“Now I think it is finally the time to show my value on the pitch.”
