Newcastle loanee Adam Armstrong has now scored 12 league goals this season – more than any other professional player in the English game.

His brace for Coventry City on Tuesday night bumped him ahead of Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy, who has been his own unlikely success story.

Some Magpies fans have been calling for him to be recalled, but the majority want him to continue his education with the Sky Blues until January at least.

Another option could be to loan Armstrong out to a Championship club from January until the end of the season – something that worked for both Patrick Bamford and Benik Afobe.

Speaking via Twitter, the striker said: “Happy to have gotten 3 points after beating Barnsley 4-3 last night! Delighted to have got another 2 goals! Thank you for all the messages.”

While his manager Tony Mowbray was also reported on the social media as saying: “I’m disappointed with the performance, but it’s a great result for us.”

He has also been nominated for League One Player of the Month, and should he win it would be the second time he has picked up the accolade after being named the August POTM.

Armstrong has displayed some excellent composure and finishing skill under pressure, and this loan spell has already been incredibly successful.
