Newcastle United played out a draw with Stoke City on Halloween, and while there was nothing frightening good about the performance, there was nothing to scare head coach Steve McLaren either.

The Magpies nearly scored after Aleksandar Mitrovic hit the post, while Moussa Sissoko also called Potters keeper Jack Butland into action with two shots.

Butland saved the best for last after tipping over a Jamaal Lascelles header in the dying moments of the game.

Stoke were perhaps a touch fortunate to leave St. James’ Park with a point, and for the hosts it would have been a very important three to pick up – however it represents a rare clean sheet and the chance to take some confidence into their next game against Bournemouth.

Mitrovic is looking dangerous, and if the defence can be sorted an attacking four of Ayoze Perez, Sissoko, Georginio Wijanldum and the Serbian will cause problems for many sides.
