Sunderland vs Newcastle: Flashback Friday
Sunderland vs Newcastle is a game that has sent shivers down the spine of Geordies everywhere when Alan Pardew was manager.
The Black Cats have won the derby five times in a row, with two embarrassing 3-0 defeats at St. James’ Park to their name.
However, with the momentum generated from the Toon Army’s 6-2 drubbing of Norwich City on Sunday, Geordies can go into the fixture with a confidence not felt for three years.
The Mackams are yet to taste victory this season, although with Sam Allardyce appointed as manager their defence will be shored up and Newcastle will have to work hard to find a way through their back four.

The Magpies have found their scoring boots in recent games, managing nine goals from the last three – including two against Chelsea and one in their match against Manchester City.
There is an extra subplot to the fixture on the weekend as former Newcastle manager Allardyce has taken over at the Wearside club. The former Bolton manager took over at St. James’ Park in 2007, but lasted just eight months at the club and was fired in January 2008.
