Is Newcastle United the Loudest Club in the Premier League?

Many people I know, would happily call me the loudest person they’ve ever watched a football game with. I do the same thing with hockey when I’m watching the LA Kings, or basketball with the Atlanta Hawks, and I may even get a bit louder when the Baltimore Orioles are playing. I’m a pretty loud fan. But loud fans get a bad rep sometimes, and Newcastle United is known to have very rambunctious fans.

But here’s where you’ll be surprised…they aren’t actually the loudest.

Now the numbers in this infographic are from last season. And Chelsea didn’t even rank the highest, even though it was one of their best seasons in club history. But let’s not get crazy about it, Newcastle United sells more season tickets, and has a larger stadium than Stamford Bridge. But Chelsea still ranked higher on decibels. Well, let’s take a look at why Newcastle United finished where they did.

Poor Season Performances

Newcastle United fans are generally loyal regardless of how our club is playing. We watch the whole ninety minutes knowing that our club can make a comeback, however, it generally doesn’t actually happen. Well last season changed that when we saw Newcastle United go from being in comfy tenth to being in danger of relegation. Fans had refused to go to games, and now fans have also refused to purchase season tickets.

Fans have gotten quiet, to show their discontent with owner Mike Ashley, and the way that he has handled his club throughout the years. It has truly gotten to the fans mentally, and they’ve begun to show their discontent by refusing to spend money on whatever Mike Ashley has to offer.

Who Came in First?

Manchester United came in first as the loudest fanbase in the Premier League last season. They have the largest stadium and 55,000 season ticket holders. That number of season tickets puts Newcastle United to shame. But it wasn’t just that Newcastle was up against some larger stadiums, they came in eighth. That was behind Tottenham, Stoke City, West Brom and even Crystal Palace.

So while Newcastle United still remain popular for having arguably the most loyal fanbase in all of football, they aren’t the loudest, or perhaps, they weren’t the loudest last season.

Let’s make some noise for the black and white stripes of Tyneside this upcoming season!
